History
Built in 2000, this is one of 28 machines in the sub-class 66/6 operated by Freightliner, six of which have since moved to its Poland operating subsidiary, Railfreight PL. These locomotives have a lower gear ratio, enabling heavier trains to be hauled, albeit at a reduced maximum speed of 65mph. The locomotive was named ‘Derek W. Johnson MBE’ after the Chairman of Johnson Stevens Agencies Ltd., who placed the winning bid to name it at the Freightliner 40th Anniversary dinner in February 2006.
